OSI/FCO CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS 2001-2002 The
Open Society Fund-Lithuania welcomes applications from citizens of
Lithuania for the following scholarships, jointly funded by the Open
Society Institute and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office: 1.
Nine-month Scholarships at Oxford University (October 2001 to June 2002 inclusive) for postgraduate
research towards a degree in the candidate's home institution.
Awards may be held for study in the Humanities, Social Sciences,
Environmental Sciences or public health/policy related areas of Medical
Sciences. The scholarships do not allow scholars to register for a degree
at the University. The only exception is that suitably qualified
candidates may be able to register for the University's Diploma in Jewish
Studies or 2.
Twelve-month scholarship at York University for an MA degree in Political Philosophy (the Idea of
Political Toleration) (October 2001-September 2002 inclusive). Eligibility:
The
scholarships for Oxford and York universities are intended for young
scholars who wish to use the experience gained from studying in Britain to
benefit higher education in their home country, and who demonstrate both
academic excellence and the potential to become leaders and opinion
formers in that country. Applicants
must have completed their first four/five years of university study and
have obtained, or expect to obtain, the appropriate degree(s) not earlier
than June 1998 and not later than June 2001 (although in exceptional cases
candidates graduating in June 1997 may be considered). Applicants must be
registered, or have the firm intention of registering, for a doctoral
degree in their home country and normally must not have spent, or be
planning to spend, more than three months during the two years, 1 October
1999 - 30 September 2001, studying in any country outside Central and
Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. 3.
Three-month scholarships for study in Applied Social Studies at Eligibility:
Applicants should have a University degree with a high grade and some
practical experience, and should normally be between 23 and 35 years of
age by 30 June 2002. Terms of the Scholarships All
the above scholarships will cover university fees and basic living
expenses for one person. Travel to and from the UK is also paid. Applicants should
have excellent academic qualifications, fluent command of the English
language, and, if they wish to study at Oxford, a clear and precise study
proposal. and further

Completed
application forms must be returned to this address not later than 11
December 2000. It is expected that interviews of short-listed
candidates will be held in Lithuania during the week beginning 19/03/
2001. Only candidates who are available for interview in this week can be
considered.
