Summer School is organised in cooperation with the Centre for Higher
Education Research and Information (CHERI), The
School will bring together senior and middle-level personnel from public
as well as private universities and institutions of higher education and
higher education policy analysts and managers from national ministries of
education. The purpose of the School is to upgrade participants’
knowledge and skills in higher education management and strengthen
networking in the region and worldwide. Aims
and Objectives The School aims at building the capacity of higher education managers and educational policy analysts for sustainable development and analysis of strategy and policy in higher education. The
specific objectives of the School are to provide the participants with
professional training in the contemporary nature of academic organisation
and management and decision-making in higher education institutions. The materials used for the
School are based on concepts and models developed from a ‘western’
perspective of higher education. By the end of the programme participants will have: ·
acquired models for analysing higher educational
institutions; ·
understood various mechanisms for reforming and
restructuring higher educational institutions; ·
attained knowledge in strategic management and planning; ·
formed a view of the extent to
which the models and mechanisms can be applied to higher education
institutions and systems in the region. The
School will comprise two modules: 1)
The Contemporary Nature of Academic Organisation: this module will
include a general analysis of higher education systems and the analysis of
higher education in Central and 2)Management
and decision-making in higher education institutions: this module will
focus on strategic management and planning to improve the decision-making
and management capacity in higher education. Participants
will be expected to contribute actively to all aspects of the School. In
order to do so, participants will be required to undertake substantial
pre-school work of selected readings on higher education and in particular
on Central and Eastern Europe. Other aspects of the School will include
seminars, guest lectures, group work, and individual and group
assignments. Participants The School is designed for senior and middle-level university administrators, e.g. faculty deans, department heads and others exercising leadership roles, educational policy analysts, and senior personnel in key positions from national ministries of education. Due to the nature of the School, it is essential that candidates wishing to apply should be able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English. Application Application is by CV and a written
statement of purpose. The CV
should include information on qualifications held (including evidence of
proficiency in English) and job experience. The written statement of
purpose (750-1000 words) should address the participant’s reasons for
wanting to join the School and what s/he expects to gain from the two

and the participants who need accommodation should pay an accommodation
