The Open Society Fund-Lithuania and The Open Society Institute are now accepting applications for the Undergraduate Exchange Program 2002

 The Undergraduate Exchange is a one-year, non-degree program for second year students enrolled in university in Eastern and Central Europe, parts of the former Soviet Union and Mongolia. The program is designed to encourage cross-national dialogues among student communities; introduce students from the region to colleagues from other parts of the world; and provide comprehensive student services including orientation, workshops, and alumni/ae activities. Participants attend a university or college in the United States for one year. At the end of the year, they are expected to return home to complete their degrees.

In order to qualify for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Currently studying: American Studies, Art History, Classical Studies, Comparative Literature, Cultural Anthropology, Economic Theory, Fine or Performing Arts, History, International Relations, Journalism, Philosophy, Political Science, or Sociology at the university level.
  • All applicants must be in their second year at an accredited university in Lithuania when applying, and must have at least one year of study remaining at their home university when they return.
  • Have an outstanding academic record.
  • Have spent previous two years in residence in home country.
  • Have not attended high school in the United States for more than one academic semester.
  • Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English.
  • 18-23 years old as of July 1, 2002.
  • Able to begin studies in the summer of 2002.

 Applications should be returned to the Open Society Fund-Lithuania no later than December 1, 2001.
