The
Open Society Fund- Lithuania and The Open Society Institute are now
accepting applications for the Undergraduate
Exchange Program 2000. The
Undergraduate Exchange is a one-year, non-degree program for students
enrolled in university in Eastern and Central Europe and parts of the
former Soviet Union. The program is designed to encourage cross-national
dialogues among student communities; introduce students from the region
to colleagues from other parts of the world; and provide comprehensive
student services including orientation, workshops, and alumni/ae
activities. Participants
attend a university or college in the United States for one year. At the
end of the year, they are expected to return home to complete their
degrees. Criteria In
order to qualify for the program, applicants must meet the following
requirements: 1.
Currently studying: American Studies, Art History, Classical Studies, Comparative
Literature, Cultural Anthropology, Fine or Performing Arts,
International Relations, Journalism, History, Political Science, or
Sociology at the
undergraduate level. 2.
Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited university in Lithuania. All
applicants must be in their second year when applying and must have at
least one year of study remaining at their home university when they
return.
3.
Have an outstanding academic record. 4.
Have spent previous two years in residence in home country. 5.
Have not attended high school in the United States for more than one
academic semester. 6.
Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English. 7.
18-23 years old at the time of application. 8.
Able to begin studies in the summer of 2000.
